Mini travels, we all need them right? The answer is yes, yes you do. Especially during this last year, year and half through the pandemic. We were all forced to stay a little closer to our homes and explore our back yards more. To be honest, we may not have gone to the Caribbean or Paris but we got to get to know our local roots some more, and that’s never a bad idea. Staying home SUCKED at times, but also opened some doors we may otherwise not have acknowledged.
Through the peak of the pandemic we took many camping trips, but just a couple of months ago we did a mini vacation down to Sandy, Utah. Sandy is just South of Salt Lake City, and right next to the beautiful and bountiful mountains. We only live a few short hours away, so when we need a quick get away Utah is an easy trip.
Yes Day
Okay so if you haven’t heard of or watched “Yes Day” on Netflix I highly recommend it. It is a movie where the kids challenge their parents to a ‘yes day’ which means the parents cannot say not to any requests. Right before this trip we watched it, so the kids were all about having our own yes day. We did our best to accommodate ;).
The first thing we did was found a nice quick hike to a beautiful waterfall on the Rocky Mouth Trailhead. The wonderful thing about Utah is your minutes away from some awesome hikes. It was perfect for the kids, not a long drive to get there, and easy on us parents! Of course me being me, I had to climb UP the waterfall and get some good shots 😉
After the hike, which only took a couple of hours, we drove back into town and found a Ninja Warrior obstacle course, but for kids! I can’t tell you how awesome this was. We love the zoo, the aquarium, and other things like that, but we were tired of doing the same things we usually do. This obstacle course had courses for all ages, so our 1, 4, and 6 year old could all play. They were also really well priced, so that’s always a bonus.
The next day we ended our trip by hitting the Round 1 arcade in the Sandy mall. It’s quite a cool arcade really, with a vast amount of games, claw machines, and a bowling alley. We did a round of bowling then let the kids play some of the arcade games. On that note, if I’m being honest I am not a fan of Round 1, or maybe just the new arcades in general? The payout is awful, so unless you’re prepared to spend a lot of money it can be really discouraging, especially for young kids. And the claw machines, THE CLAW MACHINES, don’t even get me started. I LIVE for claw machines, but these ones are most definitely just a scam. I’m not saying they are impossible, but not worth it to me (perhaps we should have gone to the Nickel Arcade in Sandy). Regardless we went in knowing this because we had been there once before so we were prepared and made it enjoyable for the kids.
