Music and the Soul

I’ve recently come across a new song (well a few) that I have become obsessed with. It seems to be a cycle really, of finding, learning, and loving new music. It got me thinking how there are almost stages to finding new music.

The first time I hear is like the first time I meet someone new. I initially get my first impression. I like the beat, or the intro, something small that draws me in. Then, a couple days later I think to myself, “That was a good song I want to listen to it again.” So I find it and put it on play. This time I hear something I didn’t before. I listen to the lyrics more closely, I anticipate the chorus. A couple more plays and I really get to know the song, and somehow it’s almost a different song than it was when I heard it the very first time. I then become enveloped in it. I want to share it with other people because they too must hear the masterpiece that it is.

Sometimes these songs, they come into my life and attach themselves to my soul so that I feel them so deeply. In some way they relate to experiences I am currently going through. That’s the beauty of it right? The way music can move you or make you reminisce. Sometimes it provides a sense of nostalgia and brings you right back to a moment in time. Other times it inspires you and give you goosebumps. Music is such a malleable force. It’s a universal language that needs no words.

I envy those that have the talent to write music, but I so appreciate them. Just some reflections of the day for me. Keep on keepin’ on!
