I initially started this blog because I wanted to share my love for life. Finding joy in the little things use to come so naturally to me. In some of my hardest moments I could find the smallest of things to be happy about. It was one of those things I didn’t realize how big of a part of me it was, until I noticed it was fading. So much so that I started to avoid writing here, I got stuck. I was thinking too hard about how perfect a post needs to be, if anyone will read it, if I might sound too weird, blah blah blah. But this post today is a refresh. I’m going to work on being more unashamedly myself.
To start, here are some things that I personally enjoy, which help me slow down and enjoy life’s little moments.
1. Morning coffee
I always look forward to my morning coffee. And no, this isn’t in the ‘I need caffeine to wake up and get through the day’ kind of thing. I anticipate the wafting aroma, watching the cream swirl into dark liquid gold, and that first delicious sip that warms my soul. It’s a little treat each morning. It’s so simple and yet so important.
2. Picking up my kids from school
I work from home and we live close to our school. During the afternoon I take a 15 minute break each day to pick my kids up when school gets out. My brain and body tend to get restless throughout the day, so I look forward to the moment to stretch my legs and get my kiddos.
3. Continuing #2
The big smiles and giddy hugs I get from my kids each day after we haven’t seen each other all day will always be a favorite.
4. Sing
I’ve loved to sing since I could talk, and although I never partook in choir or anything of the sort, I still belt it out at home when I’m alone. It’s surprising how much of an emotional release it can be. Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough to sing in front of someone.
5. Morning air
I love that first step outside each morning and taking a deep slow breath of fresh air. Each morning is just a little bit different, and it’s a small moment where it’s just me and the world.
These are just a few small things that help me stay grounded and grateful for life. I challenge you to take a moment and think about what things happen throughout your day that bring a smile to your face, or make your heart happy no matter how small. Feel free to share them here, I would love to hear about them!
