Glow in the Dark Food

I’ve always been obsessed with glow in the dark….anything. From the nostalgic ceiling stars to glow sticks. I especially love black light reactive glowing clothes, party favors, etc. When my youngest daughter asked to have her 5th birthday party as a glow theme I was beyond excited. It’s pretty easy to find glow/blacklight things for parties, but the hardest part was tackling how to make glow in the dark food. Read on to see the awesome food coloring I found!

Glow Magic

I had searched for bit on how to make food glow or react under black lights. While I did find some cool tips to use soda water or other natural ingredients, I could tell it wasn’t going to be quite what I wanted. Plus, these options only provided the generic greenish glow and I was seeking colorful options. I finally found a powdered neon food color that, after some review digging, I learned also reacted under black light.

Neon food color dust

The set I bought was four little jars that were neon yellow, neon green, neon orange, and neon red. They are small which might throw you off at first, but trust me a little goes a long way! I used these to color buttercream for a cake and doughnuts. However, from other reviews on them people have used them for white chocolate, gum paste, and more.

More Reason to love these food colors

Obviously the fact that the glow SO well under black light is my top reason I love these. The colors are really pigmented, so again a little goes a long way. They don’t change the taste or texture of the food you are using them in. They are made with mineral based ingredients, so they are natural food-grade colors that are edible. This also means they are gluten free and vegan.
